The Hepatology Society of Somalia - Advancing Liver Health Through Excellence
The Hepatology Society of Somalia (HSS) is a national professional organization that brings together hepatologists, gastroenterologists, internal medicine physicians, infectious disease experts, oncologists, and researchers dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of liver diseases in Somalia.
HSS functions as a specialized section within the Somali Society of Gastroenterology (SSG), uniting Somalia's limited but growing pool of liver experts under one collaborative platform.
In a country where viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma represent major causes of morbidity and mortality, the establishment of HSS marks a crucial step toward advancing hepatology education, clinical excellence, and public-health advocacy.
To build a Somalia where liver diseases are prevented, detected early, and effectively managed through clinical excellence, research, and public-health action.
To promote hepatology practice, research, education, and policy leadership in Somalia through collaboration with national and international partners, ultimately contributing to the elimination of viral hepatitis and reduction of liver-related mortality.
Provide continuous medical education (CME), training, and mentorship in hepatology for Somali clinicians.
Conduct clinical, epidemiological, and operational research on liver diseases including viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and HCC.
Advocate for national hepatitis control programs and liver disease prevention strategies within Somalia's health system.
Strengthen partnerships between Somali hepatologists and regional/global associations.
Promote community education and screening for hepatitis B and C among vulnerable populations.
Assist hospitals and medical schools in developing hepatology units and liver research centers.
